how to put fenders on a race bike
actually, i am not going to tell you much. just give you some hints.
first, get a good fender. SKS full fender set is what i've used for years and found them quite amendable to being put on a racing bike. the
SKS race blades are the best if you don't care about your buddies.
fist, the paraphernalia:
on
the left is a bit of metal handy for bridging over your rear brake, if
the fender doesn't fit under it. i got these at recycled cycles and
bolted two together to make the bridge. mount it on the brake post
when you put the brakes on the frame. i typically didn't need to use
this, but some people do.
on the right are clamps for your fork and seat stays. the rubber bit protects your paint. get 'em at a hardware store. they come in numerous sizes. i used a bit of electrical tape to make up any slack space. you'll also need a bolt, nut and washers to bring the whole thing together.
i typically used a strong zip-tie to hold the fender to the seat-tube or at the bottom with that little bit that goes between your seat stays. you can figure it out; you're smart.
buddy flaps will round out the deal. a water bottle cut in half can sometimes do the trick. the stronger the material, the better. it should nearly touch the ground. 4" clearance at the most.
for the front fender, good luck. my best luck was with cutting little holes for zip-ties to wrap around the fork. the front fender is optional as far as i'm concerned. i mean, i like having on my bike, but i don't really care if you have it on your bike as long as you have a good rear fender and buddy flap.
