whale of a criterium
ridge racing and joe "el chihuahua" holmes put on a great race. the whale of a criterium had a sweet $1500 prize list. cool course and a good crowd turnout. for some reason, not a lot of racers showed up. 20 or so.
the race started off pretty fast and stayed that way for a while. emde capitalized on a prime that i took and went off the front solo. campbell and i didn't know it, but we had a gap. we could have gone with and that would have been the end of the race. justin and brian put in a ton of work and got some help from the other teams to eventually bring emde back after a gap of over thirty or forty seconds.
with ten minutes to go they rang another prime. hoping to avoid what had happened before, i let brian go with campbell. i expected the other teams to keep them in check, but they didn't do anything at all. in the end justin started reeling them in, but without any help, it was too much. the other teams came ot the front on the last lap, but it was too little too late.
the BRI guys put in a killer last half a lap and i was able to come around them to miss campbell by a bike length. i sat up to let brian take second. i had to nearly put matt quann into the curb on that last lap to get position. i felt pretty bad about it. that probably made a big difference for his placing. i guess that's bike racing.
the real goal however, was makin' money, and we did just that with second and third and a prime.
