it all comes back to pick-a-bagel

post elite nationals, michelle and i travelled to NYC.

we're staying with my cousin, anders. smart guy. really smart. got an undergrad degree from yale, the credits for half of which were based on a book he wrote. now he's working on a PhD at harvard. we had all sorts of fun conversations. see, i'm the type of guy, who does math calculations and what not when i'm bored during bike races. so theorizing is great fun for me. he made a great parallel between the brinksmanship of coldwar nuclear politics and some of the tactics of bicycle racing.

so anyway, michelle and i flew in yesterday. we got settled at the apartment here on the east side we took the subway down to the brooklyn bridge and walked that. then we hit up city hall, WTC, battery park (view of the statue of liberty) and wall street. late lunch was at a middle eastern place on the lower east side. doner kebab sandwhich for me. it was a long ways from the all you can eat buffet at the oakhurst tea room!

after that we hit up the subway back home. we stopped at central park for a drink at the kerbs memorial boathouse, by the conservatory water.

and then we watlked home and ate hummos, pita and russian chocolate with our hosts. there were a few martinis thrown in for good measure.

so why does it all come back to pick-a-bagel? well, last time i was here solomon and i wanted a good bagel and were recommended to pick-a-bagel. well, we took the subway from jamaica where we were staying and got off for central park. well damn if there wasn't a pick-a-bagel at the subway exit. well, yesterday, michelle and i walked to the nearest subway station and found it to be the same one. hello pick-a-bagel!
