tri-peaks crit
first stage of the three stage tri-peaks stage race here in russellville, arkansas.
got to the crit and packet pick-up early and breezed through it. it was on the campus of arkansas technical university and so we took refuge from the unbearable heat in the library.
the course was a technical eight corner circuit. not really a problem if one stayed near the front but potentially quite brutal near the back. also there was a stiff wind to make things interesting.
chad, owen and i got a good start and found ourselves near the front straight away. we basically rode there for the bulk of the race. there were a number of fruitless attacks until one group of about 10 got away. the big teams must have been happy because the pace really shut down at that point and we went pretty slow. i wasn't at the front with the group went, but chad was. he's kicking himself now for not getting into it. ah well. gotta make calculations and sometimes, ya calculate wrong.
with 10 mintues to go i tried to find chad to help him out. he found his way back to the front with out me, but i was now out of position. i kept trying to get to him to help him but i couldn't and he wasn't getting to me. ah well. he probably finished about 4th in the field and we think there were about 10 off the front. i was just amongst the rest.
